I feel that I have to warn women about this doctor who ignores women rights and who has been physically violent with me.
First, let's say that I am happy to see that she does not pratice obstetric anymore. It was definitely no a good fit for her.
Dr Spenard used to be a resident physician at CHU Sainte-Justine in Quebec, Unfortunately, she was the DR assisting me when I gave birth to my son. Things started at the very beggining of active labour. She came in and gave me the order to lay on my back. I said that it was not the position I wanted to give birth in and she said "well, that's not up to you", which is a lie. In Quebec, women have the right to chose the position they want to give birth, no matter the doctor's preference.
Then, she did an episiotomy on me without my consent, without even mentionning it to me! Then, she started to do the stiches without any anestesic. I was moaning and I mentionned that I was in pain. Well, guess what! She kept on going without anesthesic and lied to me. She said that there was only one left to do. She did three more...
And did I mention that she was not speaking to me during labour? And when I asked questions, she just gave me very quick answers. Basically, she made me feel like she was annoyed that I was there. I think that if she would have had the right to put me asleep, she would have done so.
She just ruined that very special moment of my life (probably the most important moment of my life).
A person like that who does not respect her patients and who cannot have a basic human connection with them should not have the right to practice medecine, particularly not as an ob-gyn.
Another thing that is very disspointing is that I did an official complaint to the CHU Sainte-Justine and they don't recognize that I was a victim of obstetrical violence. I still can't believe that in 2021, women are still treated this way in our helthcare system. It is a shame.
