This doctor helped restore my faith in medicine. When I was eighteen, I vowed I would never set foot in another medical setting again. In May of 2006, I saw this woman for the first time at a local walk in clinic, and I will always remember what she did for me. I started having trouble breathing, and desperation forced me into the clinic. The first doctor told me I had an ear infection and prescribed antibiotics. I did not want to be there, so I accepted his answer. Three days later, I was really struggling to breathe. I felt like I was slowly suffocating and realized I had no other choice except to return to the walk in clinic. That day, this beautiful woman listened to what I presented her with, sent me for an immediate chest x ray, and told me to come back with the film. In case she was not at the clinic when I returned, she prescribed antibiotics and told me to book a follow up with her in two weeks, even though she was not obligated to do that. When I returned with the film, she was not on shift. The doctor who saw me told me to go home and rest. Two weeks later, I saw her as instructed. She told me how close I had been to being hospitalized. In that moment, I knew I needed to find a physician who provided the same quality of care. Thirteen months later, I found my current physician, and I have been with her ever since. I cannot thank this woman enough. In two visits, she taught me what real care looks like.
