I'm in excruciating pain. I've gone to emergency twice in the last two weeks. I've visited 5 clinics - 3 physio/chiro clinics, 2 pain centres and a regenerative medicine clinic. At some point, it feels like you're not even being listened to anymore, or like back pain is just supposed to be "normal". simply because it's common. Well, it's not normal. I'm in my 30s, in good health and my quality of life shouldn't be this bad. Well, for the first time in months, I was LISTENED to and I have Dr. Zahra Tejani to thank for that. You can't imagine my relief! Dr. Zahra Tejani saw me in the ER two days ago, yet again searching for help. Instead of rushing me, or quickly prescribing yet another pain pill, she sat down, and listened to my medical history. She asked questions, gave empathy, just... cared. It seems like a no-brainer to hope that a doctor will have good bedside manner and just listen/help, but I think sometimes, after seeing patient after patient, some care-providers unintentionally become de-sensitized over time. I knew there was something wrong, and so did Dr. Tejani. She listened to my issues, asked the right questions, and ordered the testing I needed. She had to do an exam that I was insecure about, but she reassured me and didn't make me feel embarrassed. The ER was crazy - absolute chaos - but she still didn't rush our consultation or treat me like I was just a number. I couldn't be more grateful for her kindness, patience and just, humanity. I'm now admitted to the hospital, waiting to see the spinal surgeon for my severely herniated discs. Dr. Tejani was the second of two doctors I saw on the same day - the first one wanted to send me home with more pain meds. I would have been back here again the very next day, when - while in the hospital - I lost all sensation in my left leg/foot. Things could have ended very differently if Dr. Tejani hadn't taken me seriously and ordered the test I needed when she did. I'm just so very appreciative, and I want everyone to know that Dr. Zahra definitely went into the righ field. She's living in her purpose and making other people's lives better. Thank you so much.
