I broke both of my wrists.  I went to the er and they reset it and said to come back in the morning for surgery.  In the middle of the night my cat bonked my hand and it shifted and I was in excruciating pain.  I went back early, because I was fainting and in shock.  He did an X-ray and said it was fine.  I told him it was not fine.  We argued for 12 hours and he finally agreed to give me a tendinitis surgery, which I did not need, but I agreed to get so they would give me a nerve block and cut the cast off that was holding my wrist wrong.  My plan was t get a nerve block and go to vgh.  I literally could not handle the pain and he made multiple comments that it should not hurt so much.  I pointed out my other wrist, he said it was fine.  It ended up broken and I can’t move my thumb still, one year later.

I agree to tendinitis surgery that I don’t need just to get nerve block and get out.  All of a sudden they put a mask on me, and put me out even though I am allergic to anesthetics and was told they would not do that.  I need to be monitored for days if I have surgery etc. I wake up and he tells me it is a good thing he took a closer look!  He put 3 pins in.  I was then discharged 45 min after I woke up, with my iv still in my arm.  I could not use either hand or fingers and live alone.  I said I  pretty sure that is wrong.  The nurse said no, here is your prescription for pain meds and she got me dressed and told me to call home health care.  I called home health care to help feed and bath me, they got back to me 8 weeks later. Without my friends I would not have made it.  And my other wrist and thumb are permanently messed up,  Follow up was pointless.  Clearly a ton of mistakes and I was told my reaction to the pain was extreme.  I ended up doing physio using YouTube to get my fingers to move but could not get the wrist, he said was ok, to function normally and I can not use my thumb.  When I had the cast taken off I had them do more X-rays of the other wrist and that confirmed it was broken.  They gave me a brace for it because it was already healed wonky.  He is judgemental and discriminatory.  No empathy.

I underwent a bone graft and ORIF surgery for my left humerus fracture under the care of Dr. Scott William McGuffin in Oct, 2023, and I am compelled to share my overwhelmingly positive experience. From the initial consultation to the post-operative follow-ups, Dr. McGuffin demonstrated unparalleled expertise, compassion, and commitment to my well-being.

First and foremost, Dr. McGuffin took the time to thoroughly explain the details of the bone graft and ORIF procedure, ensuring that I had a comprehensive understanding of the process and potential outcomes. This clear communication helped alleviate any concerns I had, fostering a sense of trust and confidence in his abilities.

Throughout the entire journey, Dr. McGuffin exhibited a remarkable level of professionalism and warmth. His surgical skill was nothing short of exceptional, and I am grateful for his dedication to ensuring the best possible outcome for my orthopedic condition.

Post-surgery, Dr. McGuffin continued to impress me with his commitment to my recovery. During these appointments, he took the time to answer my questions, address any concerns, and monitor my progress closely.

Dr. McGuffin approached my case with keen insight that went beyond routine examinations. His ability to collaborate effectively with other specialists played a crucial role in uncovering a substantial health concern that had previously gone unnoticed. This collaborative approach not only showcased his dedication to comprehensive patient care but also highlighted the depth of his medical expertise.

This experience further solidifies my trust in his capabilities and reinforces my recommendation for anyone seeking not just medical expertise but a genuinely comprehensive approach to their healthcare.

Thank you, Dr. McGuffin, for saving my life.

Tore my acl in april 2022 and was able to see him June or july 2022. He told me, I didn’t have a complete ACL tear, even though my MRI stated it was a complete tear. He told me to come back after 3 months, and when I did and I told him about my knee buckling but he still insisted my MRI was wrong. Thankfully I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that the MRI machine is a lot more sensitive than physical tests (i.e the lachman test). I knew it was fully torn even without the MRI because of the tear I physically felt in my knee during the injury and also because of the instability of my knee that did not take much better even with lots of Physio . This injury had really changed my quality of life in a negative way and I was struggling to do a lot of things. It was especially difficult  as a female living alone in a city with no family.

After waiting 8 months post injury, I refused to believe that it wasn’t torn so I asked my family doctor for a second opinion. He agreed and referred me to one of top orthopedic surgeons in BC and within 30 seconds of examining my knee he told me it was in fact a complete tear. He asked another surgeon to check and he also confirmed the tear. Anyways, 14 months after injury and a lot of time wasting because of this misdiagnosis, I was able to get acl reconstruction and I am very thankful for the surgery. I am not sure if Dr.Mcduffin genuinely believed it wasn’t torn or if he just didn’t want to do the surgery on me because I wasn’t a priority? Not sure. I usually never write reviews but I thought this was important to share for anyone else who may experience something similar. He does seem like a nice person, but my experience was not positive at all.

Don’t go to him if you have some more weight on your body. He had horrible bed side manner.  He likes to contradict himself.  Just because he is skinny, doesn’t mean his patients have to be.  I would classify myself as curvy. He totally judged me and my husband. Waste of time for sure.

Dr. McGuffin performed shoulder subacromial decompression, sub pectoral biceps tenodesis/acromioplasty on my right shoulder 6 weeks ago. My recovery has been smooth, his advice and care have been peerless. His professional care and empathy are unlike any I've experienced. In short, I could not recommend him any less enthusiastically!
