I broke both of my wrists. I went to the er and they reset it and said to come back in the morning for surgery. In the middle of the night my cat bonked my hand and it shifted and I was in excruciating pain. I went back early, because I was fainting and in shock. He did an X-ray and said it was fine. I told him it was not fine. We argued for 12 hours and he finally agreed to give me a tendinitis surgery, which I did not need, but I agreed to get so they would give me a nerve block and cut the cast off that was holding my wrist wrong. My plan was t get a nerve block and go to vgh. I literally could not handle the pain and he made multiple comments that it should not hurt so much. I pointed out my other wrist, he said it was fine. It ended up broken and I can’t move my thumb still, one year later.
I underwent a bone graft and ORIF surgery for my left humerus fracture under the care of Dr. Scott William McGuffin in Oct, 2023, and I am compelled to share my overwhelmingly positive experience. From the initial consultation to the post-operative follow-ups, Dr. McGuffin demonstrated unparalleled expertise, compassion, and commitment to my well-being.
First and foremost, Dr. McGuffin took the time to thoroughly explain the details of the bone graft and ORIF procedure, ensuring that I had a comprehensive understanding of the process and potential outcomes. This clear communication helped alleviate any concerns I had, fostering a sense of trust and confidence in his abilities.
Throughout the entire journey, Dr. McGuffin exhibited a remarkable level of professionalism and warmth. His surgical skill was nothing short of exceptional, and I am grateful for his dedication to ensuring the best possible outcome for my orthopedic condition.
Post-surgery, Dr. McGuffin continued to impress me with his commitment to my recovery. During these appointments, he took the time to answer my questions, address any concerns, and monitor my progress closely.
Dr. McGuffin approached my case with keen insight that went beyond routine examinations. Thank you, Dr. McGuffin, for saving my life.
Tore my acl in april 2022 and was able to see him June or july 2022. He told me, I didn’t have a complete ACL tear, even though my MRI stated it was a complete tear. He told me to come back after 3 months, and when I did and I told him about my knee buckling but he still insisted my MRI was wrong. Thankfully I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that the MRI machine is a lot more sensitive than physical tests (i.e the lachman test). I knew it was fully torn even without the MRI because of the tear I physically felt in my knee during the injury and also because of the instability of my knee that did not take much better even with lots of Physio . This injury had really changed my quality of life in a negative way and I was struggling to do a lot of things. It was especially difficult as a female living alone in a city with no family.
After waiting 8 months post injury, I refused to believe that it wasn’t torn so I asked my family doctor for a second opinion. He agreed and referred me to one of top orthopedic surgeons in BC and within 30 seconds of examining my knee he told me it was in fact a complete tear. He asked another surgeon to check and he also confirmed the tear. Anyways, 14 months after injury and a lot of time wasting because of this misdiagnosis, I was able to get acl reconstruction and I am very thankful for the surgery. I am not sure if Dr.Mcduffin genuinely believed it wasn’t torn or if he just didn’t want to do the surgery on me because I wasn’t a priority? Not sure. I usually never write reviews but I thought this was important to share for anyone else who may experience something similar. He does seem like a nice person, but my experience was not positive at all.
Don’t go to him if you have some more weight on your body. He had horrible bed side manner. He likes to contradict himself. Just because he is skinny, doesn’t mean his patients have to be. I would classify myself as curvy. He totally judged me and my husband. Waste of time for sure.
Dr. McGuffin performed shoulder subacromial decompression, sub pectoral biceps tenodesis/acromioplasty on my right shoulder 6 weeks ago. My recovery has been smooth, his advice and care have been peerless. His professional care and empathy are unlike any I've experienced. In short, I could not recommend him any less enthusiastically!
